Anura Vineyards

The great thing about Sundays in Cape Town is the chance to drink wine. We have such a great variety of farms available to us, and Anura is one of the understated great ones.

At the beginning of Klapmuts Road, in Paarl, you will find this lovely farm. We recommend ordering the cheese and preserves platter when tasting the wine. There are some pretty amazing variations of cheeses, such as chilli and paprika infusions as well as Froggit Foods products like Whiskey Marmalade and a Morrocan Zing which you may just buy after trying.

And the wines: a tasty choice of wines, which we couldn't fault. Starting off with a different rosè which can easily be consumed in copious amounts when with friends, to a very rich red Cab Sav and the wine maker's Verdelho, which has a unique flavour. The range of wines available on this farm is wide; ensuring whoever you go with will enjoy something (or all of them).

Whether it's raining out and you sit inside by the fireplace, or outside on the patio soaking up the sun, this is definitely a farm to check out.

Portobello Road

This vintage inspired tea house is home to local designer Janie B. Janie and her mom, Mary, started the shop in early September 2012 and the shop has grown immensely. As you walk up to the shop your nose will guide you with the enchanting aroma of the freshly ground Origin Coffee. Their Dilmah teas are served in eclectic vintage tea sets and you can munch on gourmet light lunches or if you're feeling like something sweet they have some delicious Red Velvet cupcakes and their deadly Chocolate Cheesecake (it comes with a warning of addiction)!
You can find brands of imported and local clothing as well as cool vintage items sourced from local second hand stores for your convenience. And if you thought that wasn’t enough you can purchase cute vintage and new items on their display cabinet like glassware, cards, bunting and little knick-knack items. Portobello is host to a Market Sale where you can find awesome true Capetonian Entrepreneurs in the clothing and accessory field.

The Backyard Cafè

In Bergvliet there is a little garden, and in this little garden is a little breakfast and light meals spot know as The Backyard Cafè.

As you pass through the front doors your eyes are drawn to all the vintage antique furniture on sale. Claire already had a few items pointed out for our own place. More furniture for her cat to destroy. Anyway by now we had found ourselves in the busy back garden. Scattered tables and chairs provide the homely relaxed feeling, as if you were sitting in your own garden. Breakfast and lunch menus supply to all stomachs, in a healthy and tasty way. Lekker origin coffee and some delicious fresh juices that are a definite. An overall pleasant and very happy vibe. That we will definitely be going to again.

La Belle

Wow! This place really has it all. A beautiful setting that has you staring off into the trees above you, a menu that suits anyone; especially your stomach, a patisserie/deli counter that will have you drooling in front of everyone, a very well put together wine list and even a selection of fresh smoothies for those extra hot days we've been having.

We’ve been there a couple of times now and it never disappoints. Located at the Alphen Spa in Constantia and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It doesn't have a large menu that you get lost in but you will be definitely questioning each dish as you try to make a decision -and even if you take a chance at something you won’t be disappointed. Their blueberry flapjacks are a must, they leave a taste in your mouth that you never want to go away. Their fillet is always cooked to perfection and finished off with a lovely béarnaise. The pork belly is one that even Babe would give a prize to. A salted caramel tart that will literally make you wish you could regurgitate it back up again so you can savour its flavours again.
Yes this a spending place, but well worth a try.

Jungala

This previous long weekend was spent by most Capetonians chilling in the comfort of their homes watching sport or away with family.

Well there were a few of us that decided to travel to Buffalo Drift, Ruigetvlei Farm just outside of Gouda. What a super venue and right next to the Berg River, which was a nice cool down when the sun came out to play on Sunday and Monday.

The Jungala crew really welcomed us to their jungle with amazing decor that you sometimes got lost in. The sound setup was superb; the music was as if you could feel it running wild through you. Let’s not forget the tribal acts we had entertaining us. From overseas tribesman who blew us away such as Cortex, Dust and Vertigo, who absolutely killed that last set on Sunday. Our own local guys brought the magic again; Disco Volante, Sad Paradise, Static Flow and Tune Raider made us proud. Not to mention that set from Bruce that really got the Monday stomp going. Overall a great weekend well spent in the wilderness.
